Well, here we are at the half way point of the season, and there is no slowing
down now.  Last week, I went 11-4 on my picks, bringing my season record to
46-17.  With a lack of big games this week, I'm going to go into depth on two
local games instead of giving a state game of the week.

SIAC

North 28, Castle 7
Mater Dei 42, Bosse 21
Central 56, Harrison 3

Big 8

Gibson Southern 42, Princeton 10
Hopkins County Central 38, Boonville 28
Jasper 35, Vincennes Lincoln 7

PAC

Forest Park 52, Pike Central 6
Heritage Hills 38, North Posey 7
Southridge 35, South Spencer 17
Perry Central 21, Tell City 14

WCGOW
Valparaiso 21, Chesterton 20

Two games this week garner the spotlight.

Reitz @ Memorial

Reitz finally got the defensive side of the ball rolling against a very
undermanned Harrison squad last week.  However, subs played the entire second
half with out giving up a point.  Memorial has had trouble on the other side of
the ball, only averaging 14 points a game after putting up 34 points on Bosse
last week.  The sophomore quarterback has gotten better as the season has gone
on, but this is not a Bosse defense that gives up 33 PPG.  Memorial strength v.
Reitz strength.  Look for something similar to last year's game.

Reitz 35, Memorial 10

Washington @ Mt. Vernon

Two surprise teams out of the Big 8 this year, Washington comes into this game
4-0, while Mt. Vernon comes in at 3-1.  The lone loss was to Mt. Carmel (at
home), while going 3-0 on the road.  Mt. Vernon has another Stemple running the
offense, while Washington really emphasizes team play.  I may have a different
out come if this game was being played at Hatchet's Hollow.  Tough, gritty,
hard nosed football game.

Mt. Vernon 21, Washington 17

Well, week 4 is here, and pictures are starting to take shape in the conference
races.  Last week, I went 12-2 in my picks bringing my season record to 35-13.
Almost all conference games this week, so it will be a light slate again this
week.  So without further ado.

SIAC

Castle 32, Central 13
Reitz 56, Harrison 7
Memorial 17, Bosse 14

Big 8

Gibson Southern 21, Boonville 7
Mt. Vernon 42, Vincennes Lincoln 14
Washington 28, North Daviess 24
Mt. Carmel 45, Princeton 3

PAC

Forest Park 33, Crawford County 14
Owensboro Catholic 35, South Spencer 21
Tell City 21, Pike Central 6
North Posey 28, Southridge 14

WCG

Indianapolis Cathedral 35, Indianapolis Chatard 31

Upset Special
North @ Mater Dei

North and Mater Dei come into this game both with 2-0 records.  North has been a
difficult game in the past for MD, and I don't see this one playing out any
different.  North is trying to get some respect this year, and a big win over
Mater Dei could go a long way in getting it.

North 35, Mater Dei 21

Local game of the week
Heritage Hills @ Jasper

Throw out the records when these two teams get together every year.  This is a
rivalry game, and a hard hitting one at that.  Can HH throw the ball enough to
free up the running game against the Jasper defense?  Will Day be making his
return in this bitter rivalry game?  Who will impose their will this game?

Heritage Hills 21, Jasper 14

State game of the week
Ben Davis @ Warren Central

A lot of people are questioning the pollsters with the placement of BD in the
top 5 in 5A at this point of the season.  Davis has their chance to prove that
they belong this week.  That said, the Warren Central express rolls this week
at home.

Warren Central 42, Ben Davis 14

I proceeded to follow my first week by going 11-6 on my picks for week 2,
bringing my overall record to 23-11 through the first two weeks of the season.
Here goes my picks for week 3. (Kind of a slow week this week, with only 14
games picked.)

SIAC

Castle 28, Bosse 20
Reitz 41, Central 14
North, 38, Harrison 21
Mater Dei 42, Memorial 7

Big 8

Jasper 35, Boonville 14
Terre Haute South 56, Vincennes 10
Washington 42, Princeton 3

PAC

Heritage Hills 70, Pike Central 0
North Posey 38, Gibson Southern 12
South Spencer 42, Tell City 7
Southridge 27, Forest Park 21

WCGOTW

Brownsburg 17, Hamilton Southeastern 14

Local game of the week

Mt. Carmel (Ill) @ Mt. Vernon

Mt. Vernon has another Stemple running the offense, and have been very
impressive in rolling to a 2-0 record to start the season.  Can the defense
stop the option offense that Mt. Carmel will bring to town though?

Mt. Carmel 32, Mt. Vernon 21

State game of the week

Carmel @ Center Grove

Batten down the hatches for this game.  Not like this game needs any more hype,
but throw in the fact that Carmel is #1 in 5A and Center Grove is #2 in 5A, and
the winner of this game is in the driver's seat to take the MIC championship
with both teams still having Warren Central on the schedule, and you have all
of the makings of a early season brawl.  Look for hard hitting football, and a
very close game.

Center Grove 20, Carmel 17

Week 2 picks

Well, for the opening weekend, going 12-5 is not too bad.  Missing on 4 of 7
SIAC games is.  Here is hoping for a better week this week,

SIAC

Castle 42, New Albany 14
Bosse 28, Marshall County (KY) 6
Henderson Co. 21, North 14
Mater Dei 32, Central 21
Owensboro Apollo 28, Memorial 7

Big 8

Cloverdale 56, Princeton 0
Southridge 21, Jasper 20
North Posey 17, Mt. Vernon 6
Washington 38, Pike Central 6
Boonville 35, Vincennes Lincoln 14

PAC

Perry Central 21, Forest Park 20
South Spencer 28, Gibson Southern 6
Heritage Hills 48, Tell City 6

WCGOTW

Columbus North 28, Columbus East 14
Ben Davis 24, Penn 14

Local Game of the Week.

Reitz @ Owensboro

When this game was played in 2008, Reitz was coming off of a state title, and
was on a 16 game winning streak, playing with a sophomore quarterback, and a
fairly young team.  Fast forward to 2010, Reitz is coming off of a state title,
and on a 16 game winning streak.  Injuries have forced them to go with a fairly
young team.  Could it be Déjà vu all over again?  Cuda Dimmett will play a huge
role in this game, even if he doesn’t play.

Reitz 28, Owensboro 24

State Game of the Week

Fishers @ Hamilton Southeastern

Two teams that plain do not like one another, this will be the game that
possibly determines who wins the Hoosier Crossroads Conference this year.  Both
teams are highly ranked in the GID, AP, and Coaches polls in 5A.

Hamilton Southeastern 20, Fishers 10

Week one

SIAC
Bosse 40, North 28
Central 35, Christian Academy (KY) 14
West Vigo 26, Harrison 13
Reitz 35, Henderson County (KY) 7
Castle 28, Terre Haute North 24
Mater Dei 21, Union County (KY) 14
Memorial 34, Jasper 21

Big 8
Washington 24, Boonville 7
Mount Vernon 42, Tell City 7
Wood Memorial 28, Princeton 0
Heritage Hills 56, Vincennes Lincoln 10

PAC
Forest Park 27, Gibson Southern 24
North Knox 35, Pike Central 0
Southridge 42, Sullivan 6

WGOTW
Fort Wayne Dwenger 52, Fort Wayne South 14

Local game of the week
North Posey @ South Spencer (PAC conference game)
Both teams come into the season with aspirations of winning the PAC title this
season.  A loss could be a crushing blow to those dreams with both still having
Heritage Hills on the schedule.  Look for this game to be hard hitting with
everything that is on the line in it, and a potential playoff preview in
sectional 32.

South Spencer 14, North Posey 13

State game of the week
Indianapolis Cathedral @ Carmel
A rematch from the game that Cathedral won 10-7 last season, Cathedral has a lot
of questions that need to be answered about inexperience at key positions, and
how they replace a running back that was lost for the season to an injury.  But
Carmel has questions of their own, mostly how do they replace their star
quarterback from last year, and how will they do under a new head coach.
Defense will be critical in this game.

Carmel 14, Indianapolis Cathedral 7

2010 High School Football Picks From Mr. Brown

Hello peeps.  I'm sorry I have neglected my website the last few weeks.  However, with the new sports channel, and the new 30 minute nightly show, etc. etc. etc. my life has been chaotic!  But in a good way for sure.  It's hard to call sports work, so I'm not about to complain.

Last year during the high school football season, former Reitz Panther Jeremy Brown made predictions and anaylsis during the playoffs.  This year he is going to take it to another level and do it all season long.

I stay away from predictions when our local teams play each other for obvious reasons.  I try to stay as neutral as possible.  It is already hard enough making everyone happy!  Of course that all changes when our local teams play out of town teams.  Then I am proudly biased!

Anyhow, keep in mind that Jeremy's opinion is only his.  Feel free to disagree or engage in any conversation in the comments section below.

We are less than 2 weeks away from the season starting, and I am pumped.  Now here is Jeremy's first entry:

Welcome to the new high school football season sports fans.  I have returned
again this year upon Lance’s invitation to pick for you the winners and losers
of all of the weekly contests this year.  I had some fun with the picks that I
made for you all last year during the tournament, and plan on going from week 1
of the regular season all the way through the state finals this year.

I plan on making picks for the SIAC, Big 8 (excluding Mt. Carmel when they play
an Illinois team), and PAC.  I will also have one or two “wildcard” games that
may come from anywhere in the state.  I plan on keeping  track of my record
during the season, and welcome anyone to submit their picks against me before
4:00 EST the Friday of the games for that week.

Games that I will be picking for week one are:

SIAC
Bosse @ North
Central @ Christian Academy (KY)
Harrison @ West Vigo
Reitz @ Henderson County (KY)
Terre Haute North @ Castle
Union County (KY) @ Mater Dei
Jasper @ Memorial

Big 8
Boonville @ Washington
Mount Vernon @ Tell City
Princeton @ Wood Memorial
Vincennes Lincoln @ Heritage Hills

PAC
Gibson Southern @ Forest Park
North Knox @ Pike Central
North Posey @ South Spencer
Sullivan @ Southridge

Wildcard Games of the Week

Indianapolis Cathedral @ Carmel
Fort Wayne South @ Fort Wayne Dwenger
