Holtz: Notre Dame to Hire Kelly by Friday

The last Notre Dame head coach that had national success says that Cincinnati's Brian Kelly will be the next Irish Head Coach.  Lou Holtz won a national championship with Notre Dame in 1988.  He is now an analyst on ESPN.

"I believe that's what is going to happen," said Holtz. "I believe something will be done by the end of the week, at least that's what all the indications are."

Holtz, , was a guest on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 in Chicago.

"[Kelly] really wants the job," Holtz said. "I think that's his lifetime job. He would love to be there.

"He has an Irish name, plus he has all the ingredients the athletic director is looking for. Here's a guy who's been prepared every place he's been. He's done a tremendous job at Cincinnati."

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has never been a serious candidate.

Kelly has a banquet with the Bearcats on Thursday.  ESPN is reporting that if Kelly is indeed named Notre Dame coach, that he will not coach UC in the Sugar Bowl against Florida.
