Week Seven NFL Power Rankings

The gap between the Top Ten and Bottom Five has never been larger.  There are some really garbage teams out there.  The one thing that is pretty consistent is the quarterback position.  There is not a position in sports that can change the landscape of a franchise more than quarterback.    For some quarterbacks, the older you are the better.  Kurt Warner and Brett Favre are the grandpas of the league.  Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb, Carson Palmer, and even Drew Brees are not spring chickens.  There are of course exceptions.  Jake Dellhomme and Kerry Collins jump to mind.  However, if you have an upper tier quarterback, either you are also an upper tier team, or you at least have a chance.

The Saints are getting a lot of buzz from the media, and rightfully so.  New Orleans spotted Miami 21 points, only to rally for the win to stay unbeaten.  The Saints have proven they can win in a number of ways.  However, the team that I was most impressed with in Week 7 is Arizona.  In past seasons, the Cardinals were an awful team on the road, and even worse when they were playing at East Coast teams.  Despite a relatively close score, Arizona whipped the Giants at the Meadowlands.  If Beanie Wells can hold on to the football he can give the Cards a power running game they have never had.  Wells had a couple of glimpses of the future on runs up the middle.  The Cardinals secondary flies all over the field, and they used the Giants method of getting to the quarterback without blitzing to create confusion.

You have to give props to the Bengals for just waxing my beloved Bears.  Carson Palmer finally looks the same player before that horrible playoff injury against Pittsburgh.

I don’t understand how the Colts had such an awesome season a year ago, and have been rewarded with such an easy schedule.  Peyton Manning is the MVP for me so far.  That pass he dropped into Dallas Clark for a touchdown was beautiful.  I have not heard anyone talk about that particular pass, but it was just perfect.  Indy gets a Niners team who has gone back to Alex Smith at home.  Another win.

I loved watching the Steelers/Vikings game.  As much as I would want to bash Brett Favre, it was not his fault Chester Taylor just let that ball go right through his hands.  Vikings seemed to have the ball the entire second half, but the Steelers defense handed Minnesota loss number one.

The Cowboys and Falcons can’t seem to figure out if they are going to be an average team or a great team.

Did anyone see the Bills beat the Panthers?  Neither did I.  Onto the rankings….

TOP TEN

1. Colts - Despite the weak schedule, I am not penalizing them for playing perfect.

2. Saints - Another great win.  Defense, Special Teams and that great Offense!

3. Vikings - No need to knock them way down for a loss at Pittsburgh.  They are the real deal.

4. Patriots - Here I go again, putting the Pats up high.  Will I get burned again?

5. Broncos - I know they beat New England, and I have them lower.  I go by my gut.  NE is better.

6. Steelers - They have won four straight heading into their bye.

7. Bengals - I know they beat Pittsburgh, and I have them lower.  I go by my gut. Pitt is better :)

8. Cardinals - I wanted to put them higher, but couldn't squeeze them in.

9. Giants - I wanted to drop them from top 10 and keep Falcons in, but G-Men stay.

10. Eagles - How did they lose to the Raiders?

First Three Out:  Falcons, Cowboys, Texans

BOTTOM FIVE (1 BEING WORST)

1. Rams

2. Bucs

3. Redskins

4. Chiefs

5. Lions, Titans, Browns, Panthers

Just think, the Rams and Lions play each other next week. Imagine the entertainment value of a game played by two teams that bring "suck" to a whole new level. Unless hell freezes over, Detroit might actually have a shot at winning this one.

I have to say that the Saints should be number one. Not that the Colts haven't been playing bad...they have been playing great. But, New Orleans had a huge win over New York two weeks ago and they were able to pull off the win against Miami last week. If they come out and beat Atlanta this week...I would have to say that they are the number one team in the league. But, that is just my two cents...we know how far those 2 cents went last week with Southridge.

Falcons, Texans and Cowboys are all better than the Eagles in my opinion. And I agree Saints are the best team out there this year. They have great depth at every position that counts.

I like the rankings but I would flip the top two. I really think New Orleans has shown more since theyve been tested. I agree New England should be above Denver despite losing to them, the Pats are just rolling right now even though its been against inferior competition. I still dont see the Eagles as a top 10 team though. I'll be cheering for the Rams, because a #1 pick for Tampa would be a great help right now.

Nice to see the Cardinals getting some love. They still have CAR (this week), SEA, STL (2), @DET and TEN which are a combined 5-26 this year.

I was so happy they looked so good after looking terrible at home against INDY on Sunday night.

I love how the bottom five turned into the bottom 8! hahaha. So many horrible teams.

Eagles are not a good team. Not sure if you watched the game, but they looked bad, just a couple huge plays. still, not sure you can bump them from the top 10, because well, for who? The NFL is just bad. There are two great teams. Indy and New Orleans. Minnesota, NE, Pitt, NY all have potential... and those would probably be my next 4 personally... But they aren't on the same level as indy/NO right now.

It's just ugly how bad the nfl is.
